Rehabilitate
Many Tania children have been rescued. Abused children find safety at Tania. Kenyan families are connected to their tribe through the father. The family is stripped of any real property if the father dies. Orphans are much worse off. Children with impairments are the most disadvantaged of all, and are often abandoned at a very tender age. Tania becomes home to these children.
Tania Centre devises a way to reach and teach children through their impairment. Jenifer and Joseph are well connected with Kenyan National resources, having educated impaired children and their teachers for much of their careers. The deaf are often the hardest. Joseph has a masters in deaf education from Rochester, New York, USA. He wrote the Kenyan Sign Language manual. Joseph led and Jennifer taught at Karen Technical Institute, a Kenyan school for impaired children and their teachers in Nairobi. All children and teachers at Tania learn KSL, among other languages.
Love finds a way. Sometimes, love is the only way. Tania children are loved in all of their uniqueness.
Integrate
Some challenges with orphans are the same as foster children. When officially adults, they are on their own with no family to reach back to when needed. Integration into Kenyan society for an orphan includes family reach back.
Tania aligns it’s orphan children to local families. Tania children live at school during the semester and live with the local family during school breaks. If well matched, the local family becomes the anchor for the newly “adult” orphan, upon their graduation from Tania.
Educate
Tania seeks to enable each child to seek their dreams and become a contributor to Kenyan society through work that feeds their family.
Tania Centre provides pre-primary through middle school education. Passing grade exams are required for advancement. Local parents pay for their child’s education, especially when education programs produce children qualified for advancement to their next steps.
Tania’s children decide if they want higher education or vocational learning. Tania facilitates this decision. More support for this includes establishment of high school certification and additional vocational facilities not unlike Tania’s sewing lab.
